Salicylic acid is used to treat many skin disorders, such as acne, dandruff, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis of the skin and scalp, calluses, corns, common warts, and plantar warts, depending on the dosage form and strength of the preparation.

Some of these preparations are available only with your doctor’s prescription.

Before Using Aliclen

In deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For this medicine, the following should be considered:

Allergies

Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or any other medicines. Also tell your health care professional if you have any other types of allergies, such as to foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals. For non-prescription products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.

Pediatric

Young children may be at increased risk of unwanted effects because of increased absorption of salicylic acid through the skin. Also, young children may be more likely to get skin irritation from salicylic acid. Salicylic acid should not be applied to large areas of the body, used for long periods of time, or used under occlusive dressing (air-tight covering, such as kitchen plastic wrap) in infants and children. Salicylic acid should not be used in children younger than 2 years of age.

Geriatric

Elderly people are more likely to have age-related blood vessel disease. This may increase the chance of problems during treatment with this medicine.

Breast Feeding

There are no adequate studies in women for determining infant risk when using this medication during breastfeeding. Weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks before taking this medication while breastfeeding.

Interactions with Medicines

Using this medicine with any of the following medicines is usually not recommended, but may be required in some cases. If both medicines are prescribed together, your doctor may change the dose or how often you use one or both of the medicines.

If your doctor has ordered an occlusive dressing (airtight covering, such as kitchen plastic wrap) to be applied over this medicine, make sure you know how to apply it. Since an occlusive dressing will increase the amount of medicine absorbed through your skin and the possibility of salicylic acid poisoning, use it only as directed. If you have any questions about this, check with your doctor.

Keep this medicine away from the eyes and other mucous membranes, such as the mouth and inside of the nose. If you should accidentally get some in your eyes or on other mucous membranes, immediately flush them with water for 15 minutes.

When using salicylic acid, do not use any of the following preparations on the same affected area as this medicine, unless otherwise directed by your doctor:

What is the most important information I should know about Condylox?

Do not use this medication more often or for longer than is prescribed by your doctor. Excessive use of the medication will not make the medication work better, but may result in increased side effects.

This medication contains alcohol and is flammable. Do not use it near heat, open flame, or while smoking.

What is Condylox?

Condylox is a skin medication used to remove genital warts. The exact way that Condylox works is not known.

Condylox is used to treat genital warts on the outside (external) skin of the penis and vagina. Condylox gel is also used to treat genital warts on the skin between the rectum and the genitals.

Condylox may also be used for purposes other than those listed here.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using Condylox?

Talk to your doctor before using Condylox if you have allergies to medications, other medical conditions, or if you take or use other medications. You may not be able to use Condylox, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment.

Condylox is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether it will be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not use Condylox without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Use of effective birth control is recommended during treatment with Condylox. It is not known whether Condylox passes into breast milk and if it will be harmful to a nursing baby. Do not use Condylox without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

How should I use Condylox?

Use Condylox exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these instructions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.

Condylox is intended for topical (on the skin) use only. Do not take this medication by mouth. Do not use Condylox to treat genital warts inside the rectum, vagina, or penis. It should only be applied to genital warts on the outside (external) skin of the penis and vagina. Condylox gel is also used to treat genital warts on the skin between the rectum and the genitals.

Only apply Condylox to the lesions pointed out by your doctor.

Apply the medication using the applicator provided or a cotton-tipped applicator. Apply the medication to affected skin only. A hand mirror may be helpful to identify lesions. Avoid contact with healthy surrounding skin. If the genital wart is in a skin fold, spread the skin apart so you can reach the wart. Allow the treated skin to dry before coming in contact with healthy skin. Throw away the applicator after one use. Do not reuse an applicator.

Do not use this medication on any warts or skin growths other than those identified by your doctor.

Wash your hands after application of this medication.

Condylox is usually applied twice a day, morning and evening for 3 days in a row followed by 4 days with no treatment. This is called a “treatment week. Your doctor may prescribe 3 or 4 continuous treatment weeks. Follow your doctors instructions.

Mild skin burning and/or pain is expected with the use of Condylox. If the lesions being treated are bleeding or swollen or if there is excessive pain, burning or itching, stop applying the medication and contact your doctor.

Do not wash the medication off of treated genital warts unless there is excessive pain or burning.

If the medication comes into contact with healthy skin, wash the area with soap and water. If the medication comes into contact with the eyes, rinse them with water and seek medical attention.

It is important to use Condylox regularly to get the most benefit.

Do not use this medication more often or for longer than is prescribed by your doctor. Excessive use of the medication will not make the medication work better, but may result in increased side effects.

Your doctor may want you to have additional doctor visits during or following treatment with Condylox to monitor progress and side effects.

Sexual intercourse should be avoided on days Condylox is used.

Genital warts are contagious. You can give them to or get them from a sexual partner. Make sure sexual partners are checked for genital warts also. Condoms may help prevent the spread of genital warts during sexual contact.

Store Condylox at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Other less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to use Condylox and talk your doctor if you experience

mild to moderate itching, burning, pain, or inflammation at the treated site;

unpleasant odor; or

pain during intercourse.

What other drugs will affect Condylox?

Do not use other topical products on the same area being treated with Condylox unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Other topical products may affect treatment with Condylox.

Salicylic acid is a keratolytic (peeling agent). Salicylic acid causes shedding of the outer layer of skin.

Salicylic acid topical is used in the treatment of acne, dandruff, corns, and warts.

Salicylic acid topical may also be used for purposes other than those listed here.

What is the most important information I should know about Wart-Off Treatment (salicylic acid topical)?

Avoid the eyes, mouth, lips, inside the nose, genitals, and anal areas when applying salicylic acid topical. Do not use the wart remover on moles or birthmarks, or warts with hair growing from them, red edges, or unusual color. Also, do not use salicylic acid topical on sunburned, windburned, dry, chapped, irritated, or broken skin; or on open wounds. If medication is applied to any of these areas, wash with water.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using Wart-Off Treatment (salicylic acid topical)?

How should I use Wart-Off Treatment (salicylic acid topical)?

Gently clean and dry the affected area. For the treatment of warts and calluses, gentle removal of loose skin with a soft brush, wash cloth, or emery board may be recommended before application of the medication.

Shake the lotion gently before application.

Apply a thin film of the medication to the affected area(s) as directed.

Use the soap and shampoo as directed on the package.

Apply the salicylic acid topical adhesive pads as directed on the package.

It is important to use salicylic acid topical regularly to get the most benefit. Do not stop using the medication if you do not see results immediately. Use the medication for the full amount of time directed.

Talk to your doctor if you experience excessive burning, dryness, or irritation of the skin, or changes in the color of the skin.

Store salicylic acid topical at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Some forms of salicylic acid topical may be flammable, keep away from heat and flame.

Salicylic acid is used to treat many skin disorders, such as acne, dandruff, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis of the skin and scalp, calluses, corns, common warts, and plantar warts, depending on the dosage form and strength of the preparation.

Before Using Thera-Sal

In deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For this medicine, the following should be considered:

Allergies

Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or any other medicines. Pediatric

Young children may be at increased risk of unwanted effects because of increased absorption of salicylic acid through the skin. Also, young children may be more likely to get skin irritation from salicylic acid. Salicylic acid should not be applied to large areas of the body, used for long periods of time, or used under occlusive dressing (air-tight covering, such as kitchen plastic wrap) in infants and children. Salicylic acid should not be used in children younger than 2 years of age.

Geriatric

Elderly people are more likely to have age-related blood vessel disease. This may increase the chance of problems during treatment with this medicine.

Breast Feeding

There are no adequate studies in women for determining infant risk when using this medication during breastfeeding. Weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks before taking this medication while breastfeeding.

Interactions with Medicines

Proper Use of salicylic acid

It is very important that you use this medicine only as directed. Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, and do not use it for a longer time than recommended on the label, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. To do so may increase the chance of absorption through the skin and the chance of salicylic acid poisoning.

If your doctor has ordered an occlusive dressing (airtight covering, such as kitchen plastic wrap) to be applied over this medicine, make sure you know how to apply it. Since an occlusive dressing will increase the amount of medicine absorbed through your skin and the possibility of salicylic acid poisoning, use it only as directed. If you have any questions about this, check with your doctor.

Keep this medicine away from the eyes and other mucous membranes, such as the mouth and inside of the nose. If you should accidentally get some in your eyes or on other mucous membranes, immediately flush them with water for 15 minutes.

Salicylic acid topical is used in the treatment of acne, dandruff, corns, and warts.

What is the most important information I should know about Stri-Dex (salicylic acid topical)?

Avoid the eyes, mouth, lips, inside the nose, genitals, and anal areas when applying salicylic acid topical. Do not use the wart remover on moles or birthmarks, or warts with hair growing from them, red edges, or unusual color. Also, do not use salicylic acid topical on sunburned, windburned, dry, chapped, irritated, or broken skin; or on open wounds. If medication is applied to any of these areas, wash with water.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using Stri-Dex (salicylic acid topical)?

Avoid the eyes, mouth, lips, inside the nose, genitals, and anal areas when applying salicylic acid topical. Gently clean and dry the affected area. For the treatment of warts and calluses, gentle removal of loose skin with a soft brush, wash cloth, or emery board may be recommended before application of the medication.

Shake the lotion gently before application.

Apply a thin film of the medication to the affected area(s) as directed.

Use the soap and shampoo as directed on the package.

Apply the salicylic acid topical adhesive pads as directed on the package.
